Hua Thanon is located on the Eastern side of Koh Samui and south of Lamai Beach. Hua Thanon is a busy commerce area serving the local residents. This is the largest fishing village on the island and offers a mixture of cultures. The village itself seems to be divided into two sections. The village running along the main road is more Chinese in style. The village also continues along the beach and is a Muslim area.

Hua Thanon is situated where the Ring Road turns west and north towards Nathon. Some lovely old houses can be seen in the coconut groves on the side roads and trails around Hua Thanon. There are many dirt paths leading throughout the area. There are some local craft and woodworking shops along the Ring Road, as well as several artist galleries.

Hua Thanon is geared to the local people working and living in the area. There are only resorts tucked in among the palm trees on either side of the fishing village. The resorts here provide more of a self-contained environment. For additional excitement and entertainment, Lamai is just north on the Ring Road.
